The Foundation Phase (FP) is a development-focused programme designed for motivated Junior Development players who are continuing their journey within the Coast Academy pathway.

Positioned just below the Emerging Talent Group (ETG), the Foundation Phase provides a structured, supportive environment for players committed to improving and preparing for the next level.

Who is this Programme For?

The Foundation Phase is designed for players who:

  • Are motivated to improve their game

  • Show a positive attitude and strong commitment

  • Want to develop within a structured academy environment

  • Aspire to progress into the Emerging Talent Group (ETG)

As an NZF-accredited Talent Development Programme club and Youth Development Partner of Auckland FC, we are committed to delivering clear, high-quality development pathways — and the Foundation Phase is a key part of that journey.

Programme Overview

The Foundation Phase provides an additional weekly training session that complements each player’s regular Junior Development training.

Each session:

  • Runs for 90 minutes

  • Is delivered by professional HBCAFC academy coaches

  • Focuses on individual player development

  • Develops core technical and tactical skills

Players train together in a combined environment, creating:

  • A high-energy and engaging atmosphere

  • Increased opportunities for challenge and learning

  • Strong academy habits and culture

Training Schedule

U10, U11, U12 (Combined Group)
Day: Friday (Pitch 4)
Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm

Player Pathway

The Foundation Phase is an important step within the Coast Academy structure:

Foundation Phase (FP) → Emerging Talent Group (ETG) → Talent Development Programme (TDP)

While progression into ETG is not guaranteed, this programme provides:

  • A strong foundation for future selection

  • Exposure to academy coaching standards and expectations

  • Alignment with New Zealand Football and Auckland FC development frameworks

  • A clear understanding of what is required at the next level

This programme is about building, improving, and preparing for future opportunities.

Programme Cost

$450 per player
​​​​​​​Covers all training through to the end of Term 3.

Uniform Requirements

All Foundation Phase players are part of the Coast Academy environment and are required to wear Academy gear:

  • Academy Jacket (included)

  • Academy Shirt (required)

  • Shorts (included)

  • Socks (included)

  • Academy Hoodie (optional)

Confirming Your Place

Places in the Foundation Phase are limited. This allows us to finalise training groups and ensure the best possible development environment for all players.
